Label inside form is an emergent usability pattern. I've noticed this pattern from an Italian designer, Stefano Attardi. For the sake of simplicity this pattern is simply placing a label inside the form element: check this nice demo. You can find it in many web sites, such as facebook and gmail, as well as in desktop applications.  Indeed lately this pattern is moving also in desktop applications like netbeans:
